Grouches deserve a kind gesture too, and often they need one most. On this day you do something nice for the perpetually unimpressed person in your life.
How it is celebrated: people bring a gloomy colleague a coffee, carry a cranky neighbour's shopping, or leave a thank-you note on a desk. The trick is not to take it personally if all you get back is a mumbled "fine, thanks".
The world's most famous grouch is probably Oscar from the American children's show Sesame Street. He lives in a rubbish bin and proudly loves everything other people call trash.
