Heritage Day in Canada
February 16 · Level 6 · #1010 of 2238

Heritage Day in Canada celebrates the history and culture of a country shaped by Indigenous peoples, French- and English-speaking Canadians and newcomers from around the world. It is a reminder that the past is worth looking after.
How it is celebrated: museums and historic sites put on exhibitions and tours, and local communities share crafts, music and traditional food.
In Nova Scotia the third Monday of February is a provincial holiday called Heritage Day. When it was first marked in 2015, it honoured Viola Desmond, a campaigner against racial segregation.
