Security Agencies Employee Day (Russia)

This is the professional day of people who serve in Russia's security agencies. The date recalls the creation of the Cheka in December 1917, the body from which the country's security services traditionally trace their history.

How it is celebrated: there are formal gatherings and award ceremonies, veterans meet serving officers, and flowers are laid at monuments and memorials to colleagues who died on duty. Teams also receive greetings from their management and families.

The Cheka was headed by Felix Dzerzhinsky, and 20 December in the modern calendar corresponds to 7 December in the old style, the day the commission was set up.
