World Techno Day
December 9 · Level 8 · #474 of 2238
A day for electronic music built on a steady beat and synthesizer sounds. Fans celebrate the genre born in clubs and home studios, along with its dance-till-dawn culture.
How it is celebrated: people play favourite sets and old records, head to club nights and share playlists with friends. Some try making a track of their own on a synthesizer or in music software.
Techno took shape in Detroit in the mid-1980s. Juan Atkins, Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson, known as the Belleville Three, were among its pioneers.
