Computer Mouse Birthday
December 9 · Level 8 · #639 of 2238

This day marks the first public demonstration of the computer mouse, shown in San Francisco on 9 December 1968.
How it is celebrated: techies and gadget fans look back at that first demo, treat themselves to a new mouse or tidy up a cluttered desk. The bravest put the mouse aside for a day and learn a few keyboard shortcuts.
The prototype came from American inventor Douglas Engelbart and his team. Its casing was made of wood, and the cord looked like a tail, which is how the mouse got its name.
