Russian Railway Departmental Guard Day
December 9 · Level 7 · #870 of 2238
This is the professional day of the departmental guard of Russian railway transport. Its officers protect stations, bridges, depots and cargo, so that trains can run safely and on time.
How it is celebrated: colleagues are congratulated at formal meetings, the best officers receive certificates and thanks, and veterans of the service meet younger recruits to share their experience.
The scale of the job is striking: the Trans-Siberian Railway alone crosses seven time zones, so guarding the tracks means working across vast distances and very different climates.
