World Space Week
October 4 · Level 9 · #411 of 2238
World Space Week explores what space science and technology do for life on Earth. Weather forecasts, satellite communications and new research tools give everyone a reason to look beyond the atmosphere.
How it is celebrated: schools, museums and planetariums host talks, exhibitions and space activities. Astronomy groups arrange skywatching sessions, while younger visitors discover how rockets and satellites work.
The week's dates bookend two milestones: the first artificial satellite launched on 4 October 1957, and the Outer Space Treaty entered into force on 10 October 1967.
