Cinnamon Bun Day in Sweden

Sweden's Cinnamon Bun Day celebrates a favourite companion to fika, the Swedish coffee break. Introduced in 1999 by the country's Home Baking Council, it gives home bakers, cafés and colleagues a shared excuse to put something fresh on the table.

How it is celebrated: families bake batches at home, bakeries stock their counters, and people bring buns to share over coffee at work. A little time for conversation is part of the appeal.

Cinnamon is only half the aromatic story: Swedish bun dough often contains cardamom. A sprinkling of pearl sugar provides the familiar crunchy finish.
