World Farm Animals Day
October 2 · Level 5 · #1239 of 2238

Cows, pigs, chickens and other farm residents can feel pain and fear, and this day asks us to remember it. Animal advocates use it to talk about how farm animals are kept and what ends up on our plates.
How it is celebrated: animal welfare groups hold rallies, talks and film screenings, and many people try a vegetarian menu for the day. Some visit sanctuaries that shelter animals rescued from farms.
The date was chosen on purpose: 2 October is the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, who was a vegetarian and a champion of nonviolence.
