Metro Builders' Day in Russia
October 2 · Level 5 · #1279 of 2238
Metro Builders' Day in Russia recognises the people who turn underground plans into working railway lines. Tunnel crews, engineers, designers and station builders all contribute to journeys that passengers may barely think about once the train arrives.
How it is celebrated: workplaces congratulate their teams, present awards and honour retired colleagues. Gatherings offer a chance to remember demanding projects and discuss the next stages of construction.
Modern tunnel-boring machines do more than excavate: they also allow crews to assemble a protective tunnel lining behind them as the work advances.
