World Environment Day
June 5 · Level 10 · #211 of 2238
World Environment Day brings attention to the natural systems we depend on, from clean water to healthy soil. This UN observance encourages people, communities and businesses to turn environmental concerns into practical action.
How it is celebrated: volunteers clean beaches and parks, schools run environmental activities, and organizations launch conservation projects. An annual theme gives these different efforts a shared focus.
The date recalls the opening of the 1972 Stockholm Conference, the UN's first world conference devoted to the environment.
