World Distance Learning Day
August 31 · Level 2 · #1941 of 2238
This day is about learning from a distance: online courses, video lessons and correspondence programmes. It reminds us that knowledge can reach you anywhere, as long as you have the will and a connection.
How it is celebrated: schools and universities run webinars and open online lessons, and teachers swap tips that work. Students share how they organise study at home and sign up for new courses.
Distance learning is much older than the internet: in 1840 Isaac Pitman in England began teaching shorthand by post.
