International Overdose Awareness Day

On this day people remember those who died from an overdose and support families who have lost someone. It also reminds us that such deaths can be prevented when the problem is discussed openly and help arrives in time.

How it is celebrated: communities hold candlelit vigils, public meetings and talks with doctors and volunteers. Many people wear silver ribbons or badges and learn how to spot warning signs and call for help.

The campaign began in Australia in 2001, and today events take place in many countries around the world.
