Limba Noastră — National Language Day in Moldova
August 31 · Level 4 · #1402 of 2238

Moldova’s Limba Noastră celebrates language and literature, recalling the language movement and restoration of Latin script in 1989. Romanian is at the heart of the occasion, alongside the role a shared language plays in carrying cultural memory.
How it is celebrated: poetry readings, concerts, book exhibitions and meetings with writers fill cultural programmes. In Chișinău, flowers are laid at writers’ monuments along the Alley of Classics, and libraries arrange themed events.
Limba Noastră means “Our Language.” It is also the title of Alexei Mateevici’s poem whose verses provide the lyrics of Moldova’s national anthem.
