World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development

World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development reminds us that the languages, customs and arts of different peoples are a shared treasure, not an obstacle. The UN General Assembly established it in 2002.

How it is celebrated: schools and cultural centres hold festivals, exhibitions and workshops, and people try the music, food and traditions of communities other than their own.

In 2001 the UNESCO Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity compared the importance of cultural diversity for humankind to that of biodiversity for nature.
