Pacific Fleet Day
May 21 · Level 9 · #227 of 2238
Pacific Fleet Day is the holiday of the sailors and veterans of one of the four fleets of the Russian Navy, whose main base is Vladivostok. The date is tied to the fleet's own history.
How it is celebrated: with ceremonial parades in Vladivostok and other bases, flowers at monuments to sailors, meetings with veterans and, often, ships open to visitors.
The fleet traces its roots to the Okhotsk Flotilla, set up in 1731 on the Sea of Okhotsk, well over a century before Vladivostok was founded in 1860.
