Vyshyvanka Day

Vyshyvanka Day celebrates the Ukrainian embroidered shirt, whose patterns carry the memory of a family and a region. It is usually held on the third Thursday of May.

How it is celebrated: people wear vyshyvankas to work and school, take group photos, join mass walks and flash mobs, while museums and workshops show off the ornaments of different regions.

The idea was born in Chernivtsi in 2006, when student Lesia Voroniuk suggested that her fellow students come to classes in vyshyvankas.
