International Day of Women and Girls of African Descent

July 25 · Level 9 · #406 of 2238

International Day of Women and Girls of African Descent

This international day recognises women and girls of African descent, their achievements and their right to equal opportunities. It brings their contributions into focus while addressing barriers linked to racism and gender inequality.

How it is celebrated: communities organise public discussions, educational gatherings and cultural events. Women share personal stories, present creative and civic projects, and discuss access to education and a voice in decision-making.

African descent is not the same as African citizenship. The observance also embraces diaspora communities whose families have lived outside Africa for many generations.
