River Police Day in Russia
July 25 · Level 7 · #855 of 2238
River Police Day recognises the officers who maintain public order on Russia's inland water transport network and its facilities. Their work helps protect passengers, crews and cargo along routes where waterways take the place of city streets.
How it is celebrated: colleagues exchange congratulations, revisit their units' history and honour veterans. Professional gatherings and award ceremonies bring attention to a service that many people seldom encounter directly.
A river police officer's workplace extends beyond a patrol boat. Ports, landing stages and passenger terminals are also part of the job: policing a waterway involves plenty of work ashore.
