World Cleanup Day
September 20 · Level 10 · #79 of 2238
On this day, people around the world grab gloves and bags to clean up parks, shores and yards together. The idea is simple: a clean planet is something everyone can help build.
How it is celebrated: volunteers form teams, collect litter in forests, on beaches and along rivers, and often sort what they find and mark the dirtiest spots on a map.
The movement grew out of a 2008 campaign in Estonia, where tens of thousands of volunteers cleared illegal dumps across the country in a single day.
