Tumanyan Days in Armenia
April 4 · Level 1 · #2215 of 2238

Tumanyan Days honour Hovhannes Tumanyan, the Armenian poet and storyteller whose characters accompany many readers from childhood. Literary events revisit his poems and tales, exploring the human dilemmas and folk traditions that give his writing its enduring appeal.
How it is celebrated: programmes include readings, discussions and stage adaptations. Museums and libraries introduce visitors to the writer's life, while children encounter his stories through performances and reading aloud.
His narrative poems also found a second life in opera. Armen Tigranian's Anush and Alexander Spendiaryan's Almast both draw on works by Tumanyan.
