September 9 · Level 10 · #154 of 2238

This is the main national holiday of Tajikistan. On 9 September 1991 the country declared its independence as the Soviet Union was breaking up, and the day is a moment to mark statehood.
How it is celebrated: Dushanbe and other cities host official ceremonies and concerts, with folk music and dances, flowers are laid at monuments, and families stroll through decorated squares.
Tajik is a form of Persian, which makes Tajikistan the only former Soviet republic where most people speak a Persian language.
