International Day to Protect Education from Attack
September 9 · Level 10 · #130 of 2238

This United Nations observance calls for the protection of pupils, students, teachers and educational institutions during armed conflict. Its central concern is straightforward: people should not lose the chance to learn because a war is taking place around them.
How it is celebrated: education and humanitarian organisations run awareness campaigns, discussions and public events. They share the experiences of affected communities and examine ways to keep learning accessible.
Protecting education involves more than protecting buildings. An undamaged school can still become unusable if children cannot travel there safely or teachers have been forced to leave their homes.
