State Statistics Workers' Day in Belarus
August 23 · Level 1 · #2146 of 2238
Belarus honours the specialists who turn information about people, businesses and everyday life into official statistics. Their work helps reveal how the country is changing and gives decision-makers evidence to work with.
How it is celebrated: statistical offices congratulate their teams, recognise employees' achievements and thank retired colleagues. Professional gatherings also offer a chance to reflect on the work behind the published figures.
An official statistic does not always require counting everyone. Alongside censuses, statisticians use sample surveys: a carefully selected group can provide reliable estimates about a much larger population.
