How it is celebrated: people head to a Florida cafe where the sandwich is a local pride, or build one at home on long crusty bread and toast it under a press until golden.
Tampa and Miami argue over whose version is the real one: in Tampa, Genoa salami goes into the filling too. The sandwich is thought to have grown out of the lunches of Cuban cigar workers in Florida.
