Ride the Wind Day

This day invites you to head outside and catch the breeze that lifts kites, fills sails and turns wind turbines. It is a nod to all the useful and playful work the wind does.

How it is celebrated: people fly kites, go sailing or windsurfing, or simply stroll along an open shore with the wind in their faces. Some fold paper planes to see how far a good gust will carry them.

Sailing boats were already moving along the Nile more than five thousand years ago, and they appear in ancient Egyptian pottery decoration.
