Russian Armed Forces Special Forces Day
October 24 · Level 10 · #1 of 2238
Russian Armed Forces Special Forces Day recognizes serving personnel and veterans of military special-purpose units. The observance focuses on their service, demanding training and unit traditions, including the teamwork and trust required for complex assignments.
How it is celebrated: military units hold ceremonial formations, present awards and welcome veterans to commemorative gatherings. Participants reflect on their units' histories and remember fallen comrades, with some events taking place within military communities.
The date traces back to a directive issued on 24 October 1950 to establish separate special-purpose companies in the Soviet Army. That organizational decision became the historical anchor for the observance.
