Disarmament Week
October 24 · Level 5 · #1238 of 2238

Disarmament Week is a United Nations observance that puts arms control and peaceful ways of settling disputes in the spotlight. It runs from 24 to 30 October.
How it is celebrated: conferences, talks and exhibitions take place, students and schoolchildren discuss what peace means, and governments and civil groups make statements and put forward fresh ideas.
The week was proclaimed in 1978 by the first UN General Assembly special session devoted to disarmament. It begins on 24 October, which is United Nations Day.
