International Day of Diplomats
October 24 · Level 4 · #1431 of 2238

This is a day for the people who negotiate, represent their country abroad and help governments understand each other. Good diplomacy is often invisible: the best result is a crisis that never happens.
How it is celebrated: foreign ministries and embassies hold receptions, talks and open meetings with students, and colleagues swap congratulations and war stories from the negotiating table.
Under the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, embassy premises are inviolable, so local officials cannot walk in without the ambassador's consent.
