Runet Birthday
April 7 · Level 5 · #1226 of 2238
Runet Birthday is an informal celebration of Russia’s internet community. It marks the registration of the .ru country domain and offers a chance to look back at the websites, services and conversations that shaped online life.
How it is celebrated: internet companies and specialist media revisit early projects, organise discussions and share digital history. Users recall their first websites, favourite forums and earliest online friendships.
The .ru domain was registered on 7 April 1994, but Russian-language networking already existed. The birthday marks a specific milestone rather than the very first connection.
