1941 Red Square Parade Commemoration

This commemoration remembers the military parade held in Moscow while German forces were approaching the capital. Going ahead with the event sent a powerful message of resistance and encouraged both soldiers and civilians.

How it is celebrated: flowers are laid at war memorials, and museums and public organisations hold exhibitions and remembrance events. Commemorative marches have also taken place on Red Square in various years.

The original parade marked the anniversary of the October Revolution. Some of the units that marched through the square then went directly to the front.
