Azerbaijan National Cinema Day
August 2 · Level 6 · #1027 of 2238
Azerbaijan National Cinema Day celebrates the country’s filmmaking heritage and the people behind its films. It invites audiences to discover Azerbaijan through documentary footage, established classics and the work of newer directors.
How it is celebrated: film screenings, retrospectives and meetings with filmmakers bring audiences closer to national cinema. Ceremonies recognise actors, directors and other film professionals, while programmes revisit influential productions and careers.
One of Azerbaijani cinema’s pioneers was photographer Alexandre Michon. His early footage included Baku’s oil fields, putting the city’s industrial life on screen as far back as the nineteenth century.
