Russian Armed Forces Military Motorist Day recognises the people who keep military road transport moving. Drivers, mechanics and vehicle specialists carry personnel and supplies while making sure the vehicles themselves remain ready for work.
How it is celebrated: military units hold ceremonial formations, congratulate serving personnel and veterans, and present awards. Gatherings also recall the history of transport units and journeys made under exceptionally difficult conditions.
During the siege of Leningrad, trucks carried food and evacuated civilians across frozen Lake Ladoga. The route became known as the Road of Life.
