Microwave Oven Day
December 6 · Level 8 · #615 of 2238

This day honours the gadget that turned reheating dinner into a one-minute job. The microwave has settled into nearly every kitchen, so it has earned a day of its own.
How it is celebrated: people cook something quick in it, like a mug omelette or a bag of popcorn, and finally give the inside a proper scrub. It is also a good moment to remember that metal dishes do not belong in there.
The idea came to Percy Spencer, an American engineer working with radar magnetrons, who noticed that a chocolate bar in his pocket had melted.
