This day honours Azerbaijan's communications and information technology workers, from postal staff and engineers to developers and system administrators. They keep phones, the internet and digital services running.
How it is celebrated: there are formal meetings and professional conferences, awards for outstanding employees, and company events with presentations of new projects. Colleagues swap congratulations and look back at how the industry has changed.
In February 2013 Azerbaijan launched its first communications satellite, Azerspace-1. It was a notable milestone for the country's telecom sector.
