International Pancake Day
February 17 · Level 4 · #1566 of 2238

International Pancake Day is a reason to make the roundest, goldest treat there is and to remember that pancakes are loved from Paris to Moscow. Every kitchen has its own version: thin, fluffy, filled or plain.
How it is celebrated: friends gather for pancake parties with jam, sour cream, caviar or syrup, cafés serve pancake sets, and the brave toss a pancake in the pan to flip it in mid-air.
In the English town of Olney in Buckinghamshire, people race along the street with frying pans on Shrove Tuesday. Local tradition says the race goes back to 1445.
