A professional day for the people who keep the armed forces fuelled: petrol, diesel, aviation kerosene and lubricants. Without them no tank rolls, no plane takes off and no ship leaves port.
How it is celebrated: units hold formal parades, commanders present awards to the best specialists, and veterans of the service meet their younger colleagues.
The fuel service does more than haul and store fuel. It also tests it in laboratories, because one bad batch can wreck the engines of military vehicles.
