July Morning in Bulgaria
July 1 · Level 6 · #930 of 2238

July Morning is a Bulgarian tradition of greeting the first sunrise of July, usually by the Black Sea. Rooted in rock culture, this informal celebration combines a sense of freedom with the pleasure of spending a summer night among friends.
How it is celebrated: people arrive at the coast the evening before, enjoy concerts or guitar music, talk through the night and wait for dawn. Sunrise over the water is the moment everyone has stayed awake for.
The celebration takes its name from July Morning, a song by British band Uriah Heep. A British rock track became the soundtrack to a distinctly Bulgarian tradition.
