International Plastic Bag Free Day

International Plastic Bag Free Day

This day invites you to go at least twenty-four hours without a single-use plastic bag and to notice how often we grab one out of habit. A bag is used for minutes, yet it can linger as litter for a very long time.

How it is celebrated: people carry reusable totes, backpacks and string bags, swap spare bags with neighbours and join clean-ups in parks and on shorelines. Shops and eco groups encourage packaging-free shopping.

Bangladesh was among the first countries to ban thin polythene bags, in 2002, after they were found clogging drains.
