Bucharest International Jazz Competition
July 3 · Level 8 · #645 of 2238

This is a music competition where jazz performers compete in Bucharest before a jury and an audience. It gives young musicians a chance to show what they can do and to hear one another play.
How it is celebrated: contestants take the stage with their competition sets, while listeners go to the concerts and late jam sessions. The winners are announced at a closing evening.
Jazz took shape in New Orleans in the early twentieth century, and its secret ingredient is improvisation: the same tune played by the same quartet almost never sounds quite the same twice.
