LEGO Day

LEGO Day is an unofficial celebration for everyone who loves snapping plastic bricks together. The date marks 28 January 1958, when a patent application was filed in Denmark for the modern brick coupling system.

How it is celebrated: fans build group models, hold contests and exhibitions, share their creations online, and shops and museums invite visitors to building workshops.

The name LEGO was coined in 1934 by the company's founder, Ole Kirk Christiansen, from the Danish words leg godt, meaning play well.
