Data Protection Day
January 28 · Level 8 · #613 of 2238

This day reminds us to guard personal data as carefully as our house keys. It falls on 28 January because on that date in 1981 the Council of Europe opened Convention 108 for signature, the first binding international treaty on data protection.
How it is celebrated: regulators, schools and companies hold talks and webinars, and remind people about strong passwords, privacy settings and their rights as users.
In the United States and Canada, the same date is known as Data Privacy Day.
