International Firefighters' Day
May 4 · Level 10 · #39 of 2238
International Firefighters' Day honours the people who fight fires and save lives, while remembering those who have died in the line of duty. It recognises both professional crews and volunteers serving their communities.
How it is celebrated: fire services and communities hold memorial ceremonies, recognise firefighters' service and share fire-safety advice. Some stations welcome visitors for open days, offering a closer look at rescue equipment and the teamwork behind an emergency response.
The day's symbol is a red-and-blue ribbon, pairing the colours of fire and water. Its date also falls on the feast of Saint Florian, a patron saint of firefighters.
