International Day of Happiness
March 20 · Level 8 · #672 of 2238

The International Day of Happiness recognises well-being as a shared public goal, as well as a personal concern. Established by the UN in 2012, it encourages societies to consider how people experience their lives when thinking about progress.
How it is celebrated: communities organise gatherings, volunteering activities and conversations about well-being. People also thank someone, reach out to neighbours or make time for friends: small actions that strengthen social connections.
Bhutan championed the initiative. The country developed the concept of Gross National Happiness to bring well-being into discussions usually dominated by economic measures.
