International Artist Day
December 8 · Level 6 · #951 of 2238
An informal celebration of everyone who paints, draws, sculpts or makes pictures, whether professionally or for fun. It reminds us how much creative work gives to culture and to each of us.
How it is celebrated: artists go out to paint en plein air, give workshops, open their studios and show their work in exhibitions, while everyone else visits a gallery or picks up a brush.
The term plein air is French for "open air", and painting outdoors was famously the habit of the French Impressionists.
