Fjord Day in Scandinavia
July 12 · Level 3 · #1760 of 2238

Popular holiday calendars describe Fjord Day as an occasion to appreciate Scandinavia's sea inlets and protect coastal nature. A shared Scandinavian celebration in July is not reliably established, however, so the calendar entry needs a little caution.
How it is celebrated: there is no well-supported account of common customs for this July observance. Boat parades, festivals and organised clean-ups should therefore not be presented as established traditions of the day.
Norway's characteristic deep fjords are glacial valleys flooded by the sea. Their steep walls preserve the work of enormous ice masses that slowly carved through the landscape.
