Military Retirees' Day is an informal occasion in Russia to thank people whose military service has ended. It recognises their experience and years of work, as well as the friendships that can last long after leaving the armed forces.

A military retiree is not necessarily elderly. Service-based pensions can make retirement possible well before the usual civilian retirement age.
