Russian Guards Day
September 2 · Level 10 · #25 of 2238

Russian Guards Day honours Guards military units and the people who serve in them. It connects the history of the imperial Guards with the traditions of army formations whose Guards designation became a mark of military distinction.
How it is celebrated: units organise ceremonial formations, award presentations and meetings with veterans. Museums and cultural institutions hold exhibitions and ceremonies exploring Guards history, uniforms and regimental colours.
The observance is much younger than the institution: it was established in 2000 for the Guards' 300th anniversary. Its historical roots lie in Peter I's Preobrazhensky and Semyonovsky regiments.
