Shaggy Day is a joke holiday for everything that looks as if it has just stepped out of a wind tunnel: fluffy pets, unruly hairstyles and generally tousled people.
How it is celebrated: people photograph their scruffy companions, put the comb away for a day and run silly contests in group chats and offices. Animal shelters sometimes use the occasion to speak up for pets without homes.
Many breeds, such as huskies, have a double coat: a coarse outer layer sheds weather, while a soft undercoat keeps the dog warm in the frost.
