Emergency Situations Workers' Day in Azerbaijan
December 16 · Level 10 · #62 of 2238
This holiday honours the staff of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Emergency Situations: rescuers, firefighters and specialists who are first on the scene during accidents, fires and natural disasters.
How it is celebrated: there are ceremonies and awards, demonstration drills and equipment displays, and schoolchildren and residents are taught how to act in an emergency.
The ministry was created by a decree of President Ilham Aliyev on 16 December 2005, and that date became the professional holiday.
